In southern Shan State, in the towns of Pinlaung and Pekon, military airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of six civilians, including an eight-year-old child. Additionally, more than 200 people have been arrested by the military junta, according to a spokesperson from the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF) Central News and Public Relations Department.
The incident occurred on November 11, when over 200 civilians, returning from harvest work in Puchale village in Faikone township, were arbitrarily arrested by military forces stationed between Pinlaung and Faikone. These individuals are currently being detained in the Pinlaung Township administrative office, with authorities still investigating their identities, ethnic backgrounds, and whether men and women are among the detainees.
The military forces, operating in the Pekon area, have also been involved in widespread looting and arson, targeting homes and properties in several villages such as Nanfarmu, Pinsone, Lwintkyang, Konepao, Bannmok, and residential areas in Faikone town itself. The exact extent of material losses has yet to be fully determined.
“We cannot yet confirm the total number of homes lost. The military patrols are constantly on the move along the roads from Pinlaung to Pekon. Right now, there is no fighting inside Faikone town, and it is quiet, but the military is still active around the area,” said a KNDF spokesperson to Yangon Times.
In addition to the ground operations, the military junta has conducted over 100 airstrikes, targeting not only areas of military engagement but also civilian villages and refugee camps. These airstrikes have been carried out using drones and bombs, resulting in the deaths of six civilians, including an eight-year-old child, and injuring five others.
The situation remains tense, with military forces continuing their air assaults and ground operations across the region, causing widespread displacement and suffering among the local population.
